Pre-Operative Instructions

Prepare for your surgery with these comprehensive guidelines

Proper preparation is essential for a successful surgical outcome. These instructions are designed to help you prepare physically and mentally for your procedure. Please read them carefully and follow all guidelines. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our office.

General Pre-Operative Guidelines

  • Arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery
  • Fill prescribed medications before surgery day
  • Prepare your recovery area with essentials within reach
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing on surgery day
  • Remove all jewelry, nail polish, and makeup
  • Bring your ID and insurance information

Medications to Avoid

  • Aspirin and NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) - 2 weeks before
  • Blood thinners - consult with your physician
  • Vitamin E and fish oil supplements - 2 weeks before
  • Herbal supplements (ginkgo, ginseng, garlic) - 2 weeks before
  • Alcohol - 48 hours before surgery

Fasting Instructions

  • No solid food after midnight before surgery
  • Clear liquids allowed up to 6 hours before arrival
  • No water or liquids within 2 hours of surgery
  • Take essential medications with small sip of water
  • Diabetic patients: consult for specific instructions

Day of Surgery

  • Arrive 90 minutes before scheduled surgery time
  • Shower with antibacterial soap the night before and morning of
  • Do not apply lotions, perfumes, or deodorants
  • Remove contact lenses and wear glasses
  • Bring a responsible adult to drive you home
  • Plan to rest for at least 24 hours after surgery
